BYD and Uber‘s new partnership aims to bring 100,000 BYD electric vehicles to the Uber platform, starting in Europe and Latin America. This agreement offers drivers competitive pricing and financing options and will expand to markets including the Middle East, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Both companies will also collaborate on future autonomous vehicles.
Key Highlights:
- 100,000 BYD electric vehicles for Uber
- Competitive pricing and financing for drivers
- Initial rollout in Europe and Latin America
- Expansion to the Middle East, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand
- Collaboration on autonomous-capable vehicles
BYD and Uber are leaders in the EV space: Uber operates the most extensive on-demand EV network globally, while BYD is a top producer of electric vehicles. This partnership aims to reduce the total cost of EV ownership for Uber drivers, accelerating the adoption of EVs on the Uber platform and introducing millions of riders to eco-friendly rides.
Despite Uber drivers adopting electric vehicles at a rate five times faster than private car owners, surveys indicate that the high cost and limited financing options are significant barriers. BYD vehicles offer lower maintenance and repair costs, a wide range of models, superior battery performance, and excellent build quality, making them ideal for ridesharing.
To further support drivers in transitioning to electric vehicles, the companies may offer discounts on charging, vehicle maintenance, insurance, and various financing and lease options tailored to each market.

In addition to these initiatives, BYD and Uber will work together on developing autonomous-capable vehicles for future deployment on the Uber platform. Given Uber’s position as the largest on-demand mobility and delivery platform globally, it is well-placed to scale autonomous vehicle technology worldwide.
“Uber and BYD share a commitment to innovate towards a cleaner, greener world, and I am excited to work together towards that future,” said Chuanfu Wang, Chairman and President of BYD.
“As the largest global agreement of its kind, we’re thrilled about the benefits this partnership will deliver for drivers, riders, and cities,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber. “When an Uber driver makes the switch to an EV, they can deliver up to four times the emissions benefits compared to a regular motorist, simply because they are on the road more. Many riders also tell us their first experience with an EV is on an Uber trip, and we’re excited to help demonstrate the benefits of EVs to more people around the world.”
Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD and CEO of BYD Americas, also commented, “We are elated to join forces with a global leader like Uber to not only accelerate the transition to electric vehicles but also to make green transportation accessible and affordable for everyone. This collaboration marks a new era in the electrification of urban mobility, and we look forward to seeing our cutting-edge EVs become a common sight on the streets of cities worldwide.”
