ChargePoint and Powers Parts have formed a North American partnership that lets transit agencies operating E2 and ZX5 Phoenix electric buses buy ChargePoint charging hardware, software, and services directly through Powers Parts’ distribution network. The deal channels procurement and deployment of ChargePoint’s transit charging infrastructure through Powers Parts, a national distributor of electric and advanced mobility components. ChargePoint (NYSE: CHPT) supplies the DC fast charging hardware and fleet software, while Powers Parts brings its distribution channel and established relationships with transit agencies.
Highlights
- Transit agencies running E2 and ZX5 Phoenix electric buses can purchase ChargePoint hardware, software, and services directly through Powers Parts’ distribution channel.
- ChargePoint’s telematics platform integrates with vehicle types and charging stations from any manufacturer and supports mixed-fuel fleets, not only EVs.
- The fleet management software is OCPP compliant, allowing it to manage third-party charging hardware alongside ChargePoint stations.
- ChargePoint reports more than 1.37 million public and private charging ports worldwide.
What the Partnership Covers
Under the agreement, agencies in the middle of electrifying their bus fleets can source ChargePoint hardware, software, and services through Powers Parts rather than arranging each separately, consolidating procurement and deployment within a single distribution channel. ChargePoint positions the charging side as DC fast charging meant to keep buses in service.
The companies cite a service gap behind the tie-up: many transit agencies already operate E2 and ZX5 Phoenix buses and their charging equipment in the field without dedicated service and support. Pairing ChargePoint’s hardware, software, and telematics with Powers Parts’ distribution network and agency relationships is meant to close that gap. Powers Parts says it began by solving supply-chain and replacement-part problems for electric transit fleets, then broadened into operational support spanning charging infrastructure, telematics, diagnostics, and long-term fleet management as agency needs grew, describing the ChargePoint partnership as an extension of that shift.
“Transit is critical to the broader electrification of transportation, delivering a healthier option for communities and transit riders, as well as superior experience for the drivers,” said Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint. “As the market continues to grow it will need reliable charging infrastructure and support. Our partnership with Powers Parts expands our reach across the transit ecosystem, connecting their proven relationships with our scalable charging and telematics solutions.”
Fleet Management and Telematics
ChargePoint’s fleet management software gives operators route and operational efficiency tools from one interface. According to the company, its telematics platform integrates with all vehicle types and charging stations regardless of manufacturer, delivering real-time visibility, reporting and analysis, and battery health and performance data intended to improve uptime and lower total cost of ownership. The platform is not limited to electric vehicles and also works with mixed-fuel fleets.
Because the software is OCPP compliant, it can manage third-party charging hardware in addition to ChargePoint’s own stations.
