Electrify America has received recognition from the Business Intelligence Group’s 2026 BIG Innovation Awards for its national deployment of battery energy storage systems (BESS). The award program recognizes organizations that deliver measurable innovation in their respective industries.
Highlights
- Electrify America has deployed more than 170 BESS units across its U.S. charging network to enable Hyper-Fast charging in grid-constrained areas.
- The systems store energy during low-demand periods and discharge during peak usage, bypassing traditional grid limitations.
- The 2026 BIG Innovation Awards recognized Electrify America in the Top 10 Innovation category for operationalizing advanced infrastructure solutions.
How BESS Addresses Grid Capacity Challenges
Limited grid capacity remains a significant obstacle for EV charging deployment. Electrify America’s BESS solution addresses this constraint by decoupling charging station output from real-time grid availability.
The technology stores energy when demand is low and releases it during high-traffic charging periods. This approach enables Hyper-Fast charging at locations where existing electrical infrastructure would otherwise be insufficient.
Network Expansion and Coverage
Electrify America operates the largest open Hyper-Fast charging network in the United States. The company has committed more than $2 billion to zero-emission vehicle infrastructure development.
The network currently spans 47 states and the District of Columbia. The BESS deployments support broader EV adoption by expanding access to high-speed charging in underserved areas.
Business Intelligence Group Recognition Criteria
Russ Fordyce, Chief Recognition Officer at Business Intelligence Group, noted that 2026 award recipients demonstrated disciplined implementation of advanced systems rather than experimentation alone.
The Business Intelligence Group evaluates nominees through business leaders and practitioners. The organization’s recognition programs focus on quantifiable performance over marketing narratives.
