EVgo Inc. is expanding its collaboration with Kroger to deploy at least 150 fast charging stalls annually through 2035 at Kroger Family of Stores locations nationwide. The first site under the expanded program is now operational in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Highlights
- EVgo will install at least 150 fast charging stalls per year through 2035 at Kroger grocery locations across multiple states
- High-power chargers capable of delivering a full charge in approximately 15 minutes will serve shoppers during typical grocery trips
- The expanded network will span Kroger banners including Fred Meyer, Harris Teeter, King Soopers, and Smith’s in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Washington, and additional states
- EVgo currently operates over 4,600 stalls nationwide with plans to reach more than 15,000 energized stalls by the end of 2029
Partnership Scope and Store Coverage
The expansion builds on a relationship that began in 2022 between EVgo and Kroger. Select locations will receive up to 16 high-power fast charging stalls per site. The deployment targets multiple Kroger Family of Stores banners: Kroger, Foods Co., Fred Meyer, Fry’s Food Stores, Harris Teeter, King Soopers, and Smith’s Food and Drug.
“Kroger is the grocery destination of choice for millions of Americans,” said Badar Khan, CEO of EVgo. “Adding fast charging to Kroger locations will provide the growing number of EV drivers an essential amenity.”
Charging Speed and Consumer Benefits
The high-power EVgo chargers align with typical grocery shopping durations, where customers generally spend less than an hour in-store. EV infrastructure at retail locations also generates increased foot traffic and customer spending at nearby businesses, according to Consumer Reports.
Network Growth Trajectory
EVgo operates more than 1,100 fast charging stations across 47 states. The company partners with retailers, grocery stores, restaurants, shopping centers, gas stations, rideshare operators, and autonomous vehicle companies to expand charging access.
