Hoymiles Launches 22 kW Bidirectional V2X DC Charger

Hoymiles has launched a 22 kW bidirectional V2X DC charger that pairs with its HiOne All-in-One BESS, adding vehicle-to-home backup and vehicle-to-grid dispatch to its residential energy ecosystem.

Hoymiles has launched a V2X DC Charger that delivers up to 22 kW of DC charging power and supports bidirectional energy flow between an electric vehicle and the home. The charger is designed to work with the company’s HiOne All-in-One BESS, extending Hoymiles’ residential energy ecosystem from solar and storage into electric mobility. According to the company, the system allows solar generation, battery storage, EVs, and the grid to operate as one integrated energy system.

How Does the V2X Charger Turn an EV Into a Home Energy Resource?

The V2X DC Charger’s bidirectional design allows an EV to serve as an additional energy resource for the household. Through V2H, the vehicle can provide backup power when the grid is unavailable. Through V2G, households can participate in peak shaving and virtual power plant (VPP) dispatch.

The unit also includes an integrated EU MID-certified meter, which Hoymiles says provides accurate energy measurement for monitoring and energy management. The approach is similar in concept to other DC-coupled bidirectional home chargers that place the power conversion in the charger rather than the vehicle.

Direct DC Charging From Solar and Storage

Unlike an AC-coupled charger that relies on the vehicle’s onboard charger (OBC) for DC/AC conversion, the Hoymiles V2X enables direct DC charging from photovoltaic panels and battery storage to the EV. The company reports that bypassing the OBC eliminates an AC/DC conversion step and reduces energy losses during charging.

At up to 22 kW, Hoymiles says the charger significantly cuts charging time compared with traditional AC charging. The company cites approximately 68 miles (110 km) of added range per hour of charging, against roughly 22 miles (35 km) for a conventional AC charger.

Hoymiles states the V2X supports 95% of mainstream EVs.

Standalone Installation and Outdoor Protection

The V2X is designed as a standalone charger and can be installed apart from the storage system, such as beside a parking space. This gives homeowners more freedom to position the HiOne All-in-One BESS where it best fits their home energy setup.

The charger carries IP65 ingress protection and IK10 impact protection, which the company says provides durability for outdoor use and protection against accidental impacts.

Single App for the Full Energy System

The V2X is managed through the same app-based ecosystem as Hoymiles’ other home energy products, giving users a unified view and control of their system. Two operating modes are available:

  • Green power mode for prioritizing self-generated energy
  • Fast charging mode for faster replenishment

With the V2X DC Charger, Hoymiles says it continues to expand an integrated home energy ecosystem connecting solar generation, energy storage, energy management, and electric mobility. Residential bidirectional charging is drawing broader industry attention, with V2X pilots underway in Europe testing the same V2H and V2G functions at household scale.
