DEARBORN – The Ford F-150 Lightning has been named the North American Truck of the Year™ for 2023. This marks the third consecutive win for Ford in this category, and the fifth NACTOY award for the company in the past three years.
Ford President and CEO, Jim Farley, said in a statement: “Earning North America’s Truck of the Year is huge for the team that has been working so hard to build and deliver as many Lightnings as possible, as quickly as possible.” He went on to say that Ford is working to further ramp production to a 150,000 run rate by fall 2023 and to improve every aspect of the truck. The company is also rolling out an over-the-air update to improve the driver experience for the F-150 Lightning.
The F-150 Lightning is the best-selling electric truck in the U.S., with sales totaling 15,617 since its launch in May 2022. This has helped Ford to become the second largest EV automaker in the U.S. in 2022.
To be eligible for the North American Truck of the Year award, vehicles must be new or substantially changed for the year. The winners are chosen by a jury of 50 professional automotive journalists from across North America, based on criteria such as innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, user experience, driver satisfaction, and value.
