Gage Zero LLC, an Austin-based company specializing in fleet electrification solutions, has partnered with Kam-Way Transportation to launch a new electric vehicle (EV) charging depot in Fontana, California. This initiative aims to support the adoption of zero-emission vehicles among heavy-duty truck fleets in Southern California. The Fontana charging hub will be equipped with high-speed chargers designed for Class 8 trucks, facilitating a smoother transition to sustainable transportation.
Key Highlights
- Strategic Collaboration: Gage Zero and Kam-Way Transportation join forces to bolster EV infrastructure.
- High-Speed Charging: The hub features advanced chargers suitable for heavy-duty trucks.
- Accessible Electrification: Gage Zero funds the development, ownership, and operation of the hub, easing financial burdens on fleet operators.
- Local Community Benefits: Plans include supporting workforce development and community-based projects.
Zeina El-Azzi, the CEO of Gage Zero, emphasizes the importance of accessible and reliable charging options for fleet operators. “We know California is leading the way for fleet electrification because of its policies, but we also understand the strain this puts on fleet owners and operators in the state,” El-Azzi stated. “Our goal is to create conveniently located, reliable charging sites that make it easier and more affordable for fleets to electrify, whether they are in a state mandating the transition or not.”
Kam-Way Transportation, a significant player in the freight industry on the West Coast, is already leveraging the Fontana hub to charge its electric trucks. “It’s incredible to have an electrification partner like Gage Zero help us navigate the complexity of the EV world,” remarked Kam Sihota, Kam-Way’s CEO. This collaboration aligns with Kam-Way’s sustainability objectives and complies with regulatory mandates such as California’s Advanced Clean Fleet rule.
Community Impact and Sustainable Goals: Besides reducing emissions and improving air quality, Gage Zero’s involvement in the Fontana project extends to community engagement. The company is committed to fostering local workforce development and partnering with organizations within the Inland Empire to maximize the social benefits of its initiatives.
This strategic deployment in Fontana not only underscores the evolving landscape of transportation electrification in California but also sets a benchmark for similar developments nationwide.
