Gebrüder Weiss is significantly advancing the electrification of heavy-duty transport with the addition of new, fully electric trucks to its fleet. This strategic expansion underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable logistics and zero-emission transportation solutions. The new vehicles are now operational in Austria, supported by a growing network of in-house charging infrastructure designed to ensure reliability and efficiency for customers.
Key Highlights
- Four new e-trucks are now in operation, with two based in Lauterach and two in Wels, Austria.
- The Mercedes eActros 600 models feature a 600 kWh battery, a 500-kilometer range, and can be fast-charged in 30 to 90 minutes.
- Gebrüder Weiss has developed its own independent charging infrastructure to overcome the limitations of public networks.
- The company plans to expand its Austrian e-truck fleet by a total of 14 vehicles by the end of 2025.
New Electric Trucks in Operation
Gebrüder Weiss has deployed four new fully electric trucks for daily groupage transport operations in Austria. Two of the vehicles are stationed at the company’s headquarters in Lauterach, while the other two operate from the facility in Wels. The selected model, the Mercedes eActros 600, is equipped with a powerful 600 kWh battery capacity, providing a range of 500 kilometers and 600 kW of drive power. These specifications make the trucks suitable for both regional distribution and long-haul transport.
Independent Charging Infrastructure
To ensure operational independence in a landscape with limited public charging options for e-trucks, Gebrüder Weiss has invested heavily in its own charging and power supply system. At the Lauterach location, the company has installed two transformer stations, each with a capacity of 1,600 kVA. This system powers up to 16 fast-charging points, eight of which are already in service. The electricity is sustainably sourced from the company’s own photovoltaic system or from certified renewable energy.
A significant operational benefit is the ability for vehicles to recharge during loading and unloading, effectively eliminating downtime. “Our customers expect reliability and on-time delivery even with zero-emission transports,” says Stefan Oberhauser, Branch Manager of Land Transport & Logistics Vorarlberg at Gebrüder Weiss. “With our dedicated energy supply and the latest vehicle solutions, we can deliver sustainable road transport at scale.”

Future E-Mobility Expansion
The logistics provider is actively extending its charging network to support nationwide routes independent of external charging availability. Additional charging stations are currently being installed at company facilities in Vienna, Hall in Tyrol, Altenrhein (Switzerland), and Aldingen (Germany).
By the end of 2025, the company’s Austrian e-truck fleet is set to grow by a total of 14 e-trucks, five of which will be based in Lauterach. Looking further ahead, Gebrüder Weiss will continue to invest in e-mobility. In 2026, the company plans to expand its fleet with more e-trucks and add electric vans for its home delivery operations.
