Honda is set to make a significant impact at the upcoming Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo 2025 in Anaheim, California. Fresh from its global debut at the International Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Expo in Japan, the company will unveil its next-generation fuel cell module in North America for the first time. This innovative module, scheduled for production in 2027, promises to reduce production costs by half, double durability, and triple volumetric power density compared to Honda’s current fuel cell module.

Key Highlights

  • New Fuel Cell Module: Set to enter production in 2027, it will cut costs by 50%, double durability, and triple power density.
  • Class 8 Truck Concept: A hydrogen-powered truck currently undergoing real-world testing in California.
  • Business Collaborations: Honda seeks partners for fuel cell applications in vehicles, power stations, and machinery.
  • Environmental Goals: Aims for 100% electric and fuel cell vehicle sales globally by 2040.

The new fuel cell module represents a major advancement in Honda’s hydrogen technology. By halving production costs and significantly improving durability and power density, Honda is making hydrogen power more accessible and practical for various applications. This module will be central to Honda’s strategy, which focuses on four key domains: fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), commercial fuel cell vehicles, stationary power stations, and construction machinery.

At the expo, Honda will showcase its Class 8 Hydrogen Fuel Cell Truck Concept, powered by three current-generation fuel cell modules. This truck boasts a driving range of over 500 miles and is currently being tested on California roads, as featured in a new video available here.

David Perzynski, assistant manager of Hydrogen Solutions Development at American Honda Motor Co., Inc., will present at the expo on April 29 during the “Hydrogen Power for Fleets” session. He will provide insights into Honda’s hydrogen plans and the role of hydrogen in achieving decarbonization.

Honda’s display booth (#2927) will feature several zero-emission products and technologies:

  • Class 8 Hydrogen Fuel Cell Truck Concept
  • Current Fuel Cell Module: Co-developed with GM, offering advanced performance and reduced costs.
  • Next-Generation Fuel Cell Module: Set for production in 2027 with further improvements.
  • Honda Fuel Cell Power Generator: A stationary power system for large facilities, scheduled for mass production in 2026.
  • e:FCEV: The first production plug-in hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle in America.

Honda is actively seeking business collaborations to expand its hydrogen business. Companies interested in partnering can contact [email protected].

This initiative aligns with Honda’s “Triple Action to Zero” approach, aiming for carbon neutrality, 100% carbon-free energy, and resource circulation by 2050. Honda plans to make battery-electric and fuel cell-electric vehicles represent 100% of its global auto sales by 2040.

Additionally, Honda is committed to reducing its environmental impact through various initiatives. The company is offsetting CO2 emissions from its North American manufacturing operations by investing in carbon-free wind and solar power, aiming to cover over 60% of its electricity use in the region. Honda also supports its suppliers and dealerships in adopting environmentally responsible practices through programs like the Honda Green Excellence Program and Honda Environmental Leadership Program.

As the ACT Expo 2025 approaches, Honda is poised to demonstrate its leadership in hydrogen technology and its commitment to a sustainable future.
