The unit was deployed in partnership with cryogenic equipment supplier Taylor-Wharton and commercial dealer Tom’s Truck Center. Hyroad Energy, which bundles trucks, hydrogen fuel, maintenance, and software into a single service for fleets, says the station completed 45 fueling transactions in its first full week of operation, with fueling times consistently under 25 minutes.

How the Mobile Station Works

The equipment comes from Taylor-Wharton, a wholly owned subsidiary of Air Water America that supplies cryogenic and hydrogen fueling hardware. Rather than requiring a fixed installation, the system integrates storage, pumping, dispensing, controls, and safety systems into one mobile package.

That configuration is the point. Hyroad says the approach lets it bring fueling capacity online quickly while permanent stations move through development and construction — a sequencing problem that has historically constrained hydrogen fleet deployments, since trucks cannot enter service ahead of the fuel supply.

The throughput figures Hyroad reports are early but specific. Forty-five transactions in a first full week, at fill times the company puts under 25 minutes, suggest the unit is handling repeat commercial duty rather than demonstration traffic.

A Site With Existing Hydrogen History

The host location is not new to hydrogen dispensing. Tom’s Truck Center’s Santa Fe Springs dealership previously became the first U.S. commercial truck dealership with an onsite hydrogen refueling station, placing the Hyroad unit at a site with established heavy-duty fueling operations.

Where the Station Fits in Hyroad’s Network

Santa Fe Springs is one node in a refueling network Hyroad is assembling across California and Texas. The company says it treats mobile units as a means of adding capacity on short timelines to support new fleet deployments, while permanent heavy-duty stations proceed as the longer-term infrastructure layer.

Vehicle maintenance and service sit separately. All service for Hyroad’s own fleet and for other Nikola owner customers runs out of the company’s Fontana, California facility, which includes a 30,000-square-foot warehouse and an exclusive Nikola parts inventory — an asset base tied to Hyroad’s acquisition of Nikola hydrogen trucks and related assets.
