Hyzon Motors has announced an agreement to supply North America’s first 12 hydrogen-powered refuse trucks to GreenWaste, a leader in sustainable waste management. This deal marks a significant milestone in the deployment of zero-emission vehicles in the waste industry, with GreenWaste set to become the first company in North America to commercially operate hydrogen-powered refuse trucks. The trucks will be powered by Hyzon’s high-performance fuel cell technology, supporting GreenWaste’s ongoing sustainability efforts.

Key Highlights:

  • First hydrogen-powered refuse trucks in North America to be commercially operated by GreenWaste.
  • The hydrogen refuse trucks will help GreenWaste achieve its sustainability goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030.
  • Trucks are equipped with Hyzon’s 200kW Fuel Cell System for standardized, zero-emission power.
  • Deliveries expected to start in Q4 2025.

The partnership comes after a successful trial of Hyzon’s hydrogen refuse vehicle by GreenWaste, where the trucks were tested for payload, range, and overall performance. GreenWaste CEO Tracy Adams emphasized that this move continues their legacy of pioneering clean energy solutions in waste collection. Hyzon CEO Parker Meeks highlighted the trucks’ capability to meet the demanding challenges of refuse collection while being emission-free.

In collaboration with New Way Trucks, an industry-leading refuse truck body manufacturer, Hyzon aims to deliver high-performance trucks that offer a clean energy solution without compromising on range or reliance on the electric grid. Don Ross, Chief Sales Officer for New Way, expressed excitement about decarbonizing the waste industry alongside GreenWaste and Hyzon.

Hyzon recently began production of its 200kW Fuel Cell System, which will be used in these refuse vehicles, further enhancing their ability to meet commercial needs while promoting a zero-emission future. GreenWaste’s investment in hydrogen technology reinforces its commitment to innovative and sustainable resource recovery, making a notable step towards a greener waste management industry.
