IAV Deploys Cloud Charging System for DHL Fleet

IAV deploys cloud-based charging management platform for DHL's 35,000-vehicle electric fleet in Germany, with technology now available to commercial fleet operators through StreetScooter partnership.

IAV GmbH has deployed a cloud-based charging and load management platform across DHL Group’s postal and parcel facilities in Germany, managing over 35,000 electric vehicles in daily operation. The system, developed in collaboration with StreetScooter and DHL, is now available to third-party fleet operators.

Highlights

  • IAV’s Swarm IQ platform manages charging operations for DHL’s 35,000-vehicle electric fleet across German postal and parcel facilities
  • Cloud-based system provides predictive power peak management, renewable energy integration, and real-time fleet monitoring capabilities
  • Platform supports both vehicle-based and OCPP-based charging protocols with options for integrating energy storage, heat pumps, and photovoltaic systems
  • Technology now commercially available to logistics and fleet operators through StreetScooter partnership

Platform Manages Europe’s Largest Electric Fleet

The Swarm IQ platform handles connectivity, control, and monitoring of charging infrastructure across DHL’s network. The system provides predictive management of power peaks and integrates renewable energy sources into charging operations. IAV reports the technology reduces vehicle downtime and energy costs while providing operational transparency.

“With our intelligent charging and load management platform, we support the electrification of Europe’s largest fleet reliably and with IT security – today, tomorrow, and for growing requirements,” says Carsten Rinka, Chief Sales Officer at IAV GmbH.

Technical Architecture and Integration Options

The platform offers flexible deployment configurations:

  • Protocol Support: Vehicle-based or OCPP-based charging compatibility
  • Energy System Integration: Stationary battery storage, heat pumps, and photovoltaic systems
  • Real-Time Monitoring: Live data for fleet control and cost optimization
  • IT Security: Meets current industry standards for fleet management systems

“Our solution offers maximum reliability in fleet operation and meets the latest IT standards. It is therefore future-proof and can be flexibly adapted to individual customer requirements,” explains Michael Gröschel, Head of Digital Solutions for Mobility at IAV.

Commercial Availability Through StreetScooter Partnership

IAV and StreetScooter are offering the charging management system to commercial customers following its deployment at DHL. The platform targets logistics companies and fleet operators requiring large-scale charging infrastructure management.

“With over 35,000 electric vehicles, we have a significant need for an intelligent, stable charging and load management system that is deeply integrated into our operations,” says Thomas Schlickenrieder, Senior Vice President Infrastructure Operations of the P&P division.

“We’re thrilled to have reached a milestone in the evolution of our charging control system with this successful rollout. Building on more than 15 years of experience in e-mobility, we’re now able to offer this innovative solution to third-party customers,” says Rainer Wode, Chief Operating Officer of StreetScooter GmbH.
