ID. Buzz Cargo Gains 58kWh Battery, 218-Mile Range

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has added a 58kWh battery to the ID. Buzz Cargo, extending WLTP range to 218 miles, raising power to 190PS, and cutting the entry price by £5,655.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has introduced a 58kWh battery for the all-electric ID. Buzz Cargo that extends range by 17 miles, to 218 miles, while lifting output from 170PS to 190PS. The new variant replaces the outgoing 59kWh model, and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles attributes the improvement to efficiency gains in the battery cells rather than added capacity. Prices start at £29,995 ($40,300) excluding value-added tax, which the company says undercuts the outgoing battery by £5,655 ($7,600). The 218-mile figure is an official WLTP test result.

What Changes With the 58kWh Battery?

The headline change is a cell-level efficiency improvement rather than a larger pack. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles says the 58kWh unit replaces the 59kWh battery while delivering both a longer range and a higher power output, a combination the company credits to improvements in the battery cells themselves.

For fleet operators, the practical effect is a lower entry price paired with a longer duty cycle between charges. The 218-mile figure is drawn from the WLTP test procedure used in Europe and the UK; WLTP results are typically less conservative than EPA figures familiar to North American readers, so the two are not directly comparable.

Vehicle-to-Load Arrives Across the Range

Alongside the new battery, the full ID. Buzz Cargo lineup gains vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology. The system supplies a continuous 2.0kW, peaking at 3.6kW, rated at 16A and 240V. Power is drawn through a three-pin socket mounted in the rear cargo area, positioned within reach of both the rear and side doors.

The company frames the feature around jobsite use, citing power tools, laptops and kettles as example loads.

ID 6.0 Software Adds an In-Car App Store

The infotainment system moves to ID 6.0 Software, which introduces an integrated app store. Users can download and activate services such as streaming, parking and charging directly within the vehicle.

The update also brings Connected Travel Assist, which draws on expanded online data to support driving functions. According to Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, the system can detect traffic lights and bring the vehicle to a stop when it identifies a red signal.

Pricing, Grant Eligibility and Finance

The £29,995 starting figure is a basic recommended retail price excluding VAT, correct at the time of publication. Every version of the ID. Buzz Cargo 58kWh qualifies for the UK’s Plug-in Van Grant, worth a further £5,000 ($6,720).

Contract hire — a business lease with no ownership option — starts at £239 ($321) per month. The company’s published example is based on a two-year, 5,000-mile-per-year non-maintained agreement:

  • Monthly rentals: 23 payments of £239.00 ($321)
  • Customer initial rental: £2,151.00 ($2,891)
  • Government grant: £5,000.00 ($6,720)

The finance offer is restricted to business users, excludes VAT at 20 percent, and applies to vehicles ordered by September 30, 2026 from participating UK van centers. Excess mileage and fair wear and tear charges may apply.
