The KGM Torres EVX electric SUV now qualifies for the UK government’s £1,500 (about $1,985) Electric Car Grant, which lowers its starting price to £35,495 (about $46,971). KGM Motors UK, the brand formerly known as SsangYong, says both of its fully electric models now carry government grant support. The Torres EVX joins the Musso EV pickup, which qualifies for the £5,000 (about $6,616) Plug-in Van Grant.
Highlights
- Torres EVX: now eligible for the £1,500 Electric Car Grant, with pricing from £35,495 (about $46,971).
- Musso EV: qualifies for the £5,000 Plug-in Van Grant and is priced from £39,995 (about $52,925) including VAT, the UK’s value-added tax.
- Company car tax: the Musso EV carries a 4% Benefit-in-Kind rate for the 2026/27 tax year. Personal tax costs start around £30 (about $40) per month for a 20% taxpayer.
- Battery warranty: the Torres EVX’s BYD battery is covered for 10 years or 621,371 miles (1,000,000 km).
How Do the UK Grants Work?
The two schemes are designed to cut the upfront cost of switching to a zero-emission vehicle. For eligible vehicles, the supplying retailer builds the grant into the purchase price, so customers do not file a separate application.
The Electric Car Grant applies to the Torres EVX as a passenger car. The Musso EV, a pickup, falls under the Plug-in Van Grant.

Torres EVX Charging and Practicality
The Torres EVX uses a BYD lithium iron phosphate battery with cell-to-pack construction. According to KGM, a suitable rapid charger can take the battery from 10 to 80% in about 28 minutes.
Load space ranges from 24.8 to 58.7 cubic feet (703 to 1,662 liters). The SUV also offers:
- Vehicle-to-load (V2L): powers compatible electrical equipment and appliances directly from the battery.
- Battery warranty: 10 years or 621,371 miles (1,000,000 km) on the BYD pack.
Musso EV Pricing and Fleet Tax Position
KGM describes the all-new Musso EV as the most affordable electric pickup currently sold in the UK. A dual-motor drivetrain provides full-time all-wheel drive. Self-leveling rear suspension supports a payload of 1,521 lb (690 kg).
Like the Torres EVX, the Musso EV supports vehicle-to-load, so owners can run tools and equipment away from the grid.
The company frames the pickup’s main appeal around fleet economics. Benefit-in-Kind is the UK tax on employer-provided vehicles, and KGM reports that the Musso EV’s 4% rate for 2026/27 gives it the lowest such charge of any commercial vehicle currently available in the UK. KGM adds that lower energy and maintenance costs may further improve whole-life costs for fleet operators.
KGM on the Cost of Switching
Kevin Griffin, Managing Director at KGM Motors UK, tied the announcement to the cost of switching:
“Making the move to electric needs to work for customers financially as well as practically. With Torres EVX now benefiting from the £1,500 Electric Car Grant and Musso EV qualifying for the £5,000 Plug-in Van Grant, there is additional support available to help reduce that initial cost of switching.
“Just as importantly, both vehicles have been designed around real customer requirements. Torres EVX provides the space, range and versatility expected from an SUV, while Musso EV combines electric power with the practicality, towing capability and all-wheel drive customers expect from a pick-up.
“Musso EV is particularly significant because it brings a more accessible entry point to the electric pick-up market. At £39,995 including VAT and the £5,000 Plug-in Van Grant, it offers strong value for customers looking for the space, versatility and capability of a pick-up with the benefits of an electric powertrain. For fleet and company car users, the 4% Benefit-in-Kind rate and tax costs from around £30 per month strengthen that proposition further.
“At the same time, we recognise that there is no single powertrain that suits every customer, business or journey. KGM will continue to offer genuine choice across our range, from petrol and diesel to self-charging hybrid and fully electric. Our aim is to give customers the freedom to choose the vehicle and powertrain that best fits the way they live and work.”
KGM’s Multi-Powertrain UK Lineup
KGM’s UK range offers gasoline, diesel, the company’s Dual Tech self-charging hybrid system, and fully electric drivetrains. The lineup includes the Tivoli, the Torres Hybrid and Actyon Hybrid, the seven-seat Rexton, and the diesel Musso range, alongside the Torres EVX and Musso EV.
