Kia has unveiled the EV2, a fully electric B-segment SUV designed, engineered, and produced in Europe. The model marks the brand’s entry into one of the continent’s highest-volume vehicle categories. With two battery options, 400V architecture, and upper-segment technology, the EV2 is positioned as a primary household vehicle rather than a second car.
Highlights
- The EV2 offers 42.2kWh and 61.0kWh battery options with anticipated ranges of 317km and 453km, respectively (long-range WLTP pending).
- DC fast charging reaches 10–80% in approximately 29–30 minutes; 22kW AC charging is available at launch for the first time on a Kia model.
- An In-Cabin Monitoring Unit (ICMU) debuts on the EV2, monitoring driver attentiveness and occupant positioning in real time.
- Production is underway at Kia’s Žilina, Slovakia plant, with long-range and GT-Line variants scheduled from June 2026.

Battery and Charging Capabilities
The EV2 is available with a 42.2kWh standard-range battery or a 61.0kWh long-range battery. Anticipated all-electric range reaches up to 317km for the standard version and up to 453km for the long-range model. Long-range WLTP certification is still pending.
Both options run on 400V architecture. DC fast charging from 10–80% takes 29 minutes for the standard-range version and roughly 30 minutes for the long-range model. Notably, the EV2 supports both 11kW and 22kW AC charging at launch. This is a first for a Kia model and reflects the prevalence of AC infrastructure across Europe.
“The EV2 proves that a smaller EV does not necessarily mean compromise,” said Pablo Martínez Masip, Vice President Product, Brand & Customer Experience at Kia Europe. “Our B-segment, electric SUV delivers charging capabilities, connectivity, and ADAS functionality typically associated with higher segments. With both 11kW and 22kW AC charging, integrated EV Route Planner, and OTA updates, the EV2 reflects how customers expect their cars to function as part of an entire digital ecosystem.”

Infotainment and Connected Features
The EV2 features Kia’s triple-screen connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) system. It integrates a 12.3-inch driver cluster, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, and a 5.3-inch climate control display. A lower-cost ccNC Lite variant mirrors the layout and core functionality, though it excludes navigation and in-car payment capability. Both systems support over-the-air (OTA) updates and Kia Upgrades.
Additionally, a recent Kia App update introduced 3D vehicle visualization across all EV models, including the EV2. The feature allows owners to view their exact vehicle configuration digitally, including exterior color and seat layout.
ADAS Suite and In-Cabin Monitoring
The EV2 offers a full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems typically reserved for higher segments. Available systems include:
- Highway Driving Assist 2
- Front Collision Avoidance Assist 2.0
- Smart Cruise Control 2
- Remote Smart Parking Assist Entry
- Blind-spot View Monitor and Surround View Monitor
The EV2 is also the first Kia model to feature an In-Cabin Monitoring Unit (ICMU). Integrated into the rearview mirror, the system analyzes driver attentiveness and occupant positioning in real time. It aligns with Euro NCAP protocols to optimize airbag deployment safety. If the driver becomes unresponsive, the system can execute a Minimum Risk Manoeuvre, reducing speed and alerting other road users. Kia noted the system operates without storing personal data.

European-Tuned Driving Dynamics
Ride and handling were calibrated specifically for European road conditions. Suspension and damping were tuned to balance front-to-rear axle responses, delivering controlled body movements during sudden steering inputs. Steering calibration prioritizes smooth, linear feedback during lane changes and dynamic maneuvers.
“For the EV2, our objective was not to maximise one single dynamic attribute but to deliver balanced behaviour across varied European conditions that inspire confidence,” said Alexandre Papapetropoulos, Director Product and Pricing at Kia Europe. “From chassis tuning to steering calibration, every element was tuned to deliver predictable driving. Even in the snow and ice of winter, the EV2 demonstrates control and stability.”
Winter validation in Sweden confirmed stable performance on snow and ice. Electronic Stability Control calibration and a dedicated Snow Mode contribute to neutral handling across speed ranges.
NVH Engineering and Sound Design
Noise, vibration, and harshness targets were developed by Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center to match European driving expectations. Measures include dedicated carpets, wheelhouse absorbers, and Hankook or Michelin tires selected for reduced tonal noise. Acoustic laminated door glass and windscreen reduce wind intrusion at motorway speeds. Additional components mitigate high-frequency noise from the electric powertrain.
The EV2 also introduces Bold Motion Symphony in Europe, a new sound identity featuring 20 newly developed sounds. These include welcome and farewell tones, an updated Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System, and recalibrated chime functions.

Interior Space and Production
Despite its compact footprint, the EV2 delivers interior space comparable to C-segment models. Independent sliding and reclining rear seats maximize usability in the four-seater configuration. With the rear seats slid forward, boot capacity exceeds 400 liters.
“The EV2 is a pillar in Kia’s long-term European electrification strategy,” said Sjoerd Knipping, Chief Operating Officer at Kia Europe. “By packaging advanced EV technology into a B-segment SUV produced in Europe, we are expanding access to electric mobility at scale. The EV2 is our second EV to be manufactured locally and reinforces our commitment to responsible mobility solutions for Europe.”
Production began at Kia’s plant in Žilina, Slovakia, following a line modernization completed in 2025. The standard-range version is currently in production. Long-range and GT-Line variants are scheduled from June 2026. UK pricing and specifications will be announced separately.
