This compact sedan enhances Kia’s electrified vehicle lineup, combining bold design, advanced technology, and impressive range to appeal to a broad audience. Built on the 400V Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the EV4 offers practicality and innovation, targeting urban and suburban drivers seeking an affordable yet tech-forward electric vehicle (EV). With a U.S. launch planned for early 2026, the EV4 aims to redefine the compact sedan segment in the EV market.
Key Highlights:
- Design: Features Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ philosophy with a sporty, low-nose, fastback silhouette and Star Map lighting.
- Battery Options: Offers a 58.3 kWh (Light) or 81.4 kWh (Wind, GT-Line) battery, with the Wind model achieving a Kia-estimated 330-mile range.
- Charging: Supports DC fast-charging, reaching 10-80% in 29-31 minutes via a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port.
- Technology: Includes a nearly 30-inch widescreen display, Digital Key 2.0, and a robust Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite.
- Performance: Front-wheel-drive with a 150 kW motor and i-Pedal 3.0 regenerative braking for enhanced efficiency.
- Versatility: Offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability for powering external devices like laptops.
Design and Styling
The EV4’s exterior blends natural and human-inspired elements, featuring vertical headlamps, small cube LED headlights with Dynamic Welcome Lights, and a modern Tiger Face grille. Its athletic stance is accentuated by 17-inch aero wheels (Light/Wind) or 19-inch spoke-type wheels (GT-Line). The interior prioritizes simplicity and comfort, with a free-floating interface, two-spoke steering wheel, and 64-color ambient lighting. High-quality materials and spacious cargo areas enhance practicality for EV newcomers transitioning from traditional vehicles.
Performance and Efficiency
The EV4’s 400V E-GMP platform supports two battery options, delivering a range of 235 miles (Light) or 330 miles (Wind, GT-Line). A 0.23 drag coefficient, aided by a full underbody cover, boosts efficiency. The sedan’s advanced chassis, with MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear geometry, ensures a refined ride and agile handling. The i-Pedal 3.0 system allows single-pedal driving, while V2L functionality powers external devices, adding versatility.
Technology and Safety
A dual 12.3-inch screen setup with a five-inch climate display powers the connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), offering wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and over-the-air updates. The Kia AI Assistant enhances driver interaction through voice recognition. Safety features include standard Highway Driving Assist (HDA), Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, and Lane Following Assist, with Remote Smart Parking Assist available for added convenience.
Market Impact
Available in Light, Wind, and GT-Line trims, the EV4 will be produced at Kia’s Autoland Gwangmyeong EVO Plant in South Korea. Steven Center, COO & EVP of Kia America, emphasized the sedan’s role in making EV ownership accessible, combining affordability with cutting-edge technology. The 2026 Kia EV4 positions Kia to capture a growing segment of EV buyers seeking practical, stylish, and innovative sedans in a market dominated by SUVs and CUVs.
