Kia America has announced the upcoming launch of Plug & Charge, a new technology designed to simplify the public charging process for its electric vehicle (EV) drivers. Integrated with the brand’s connected vehicle platform, this feature enables automatic vehicle authentication and billing at compatible charging stations, removing the need for separate apps or payment cards.
Key Highlights
- Seamless Charging: New Plug & Charge technology automates charging sessions and payments.
- Vehicle Eligibility: Available on eligible 2025 EV6 and 2026 EV9 models.
- Simple Authentication: Eliminates the need for apps or cards at compatible public stations.
- Program Integration: The feature works through the Kia Charge Pass and requires activation via the Kia Access app.
How Plug & Charge Works
After a one-time activation in the Kia Access app, drivers can simply connect their eligible vehicle to a compatible Plug & Charge station. The system automatically identifies the vehicle, initiates the charging session, and processes the payment in the background using the payment method linked to the driver’s account.
Key Features
Plug & Charge offers several benefits designed to create a more convenient ownership experience:
- Seamless Charging Experience: Drivers plug in their vehicle, and the charging and payment processes begin automatically.
- Secure Authentication: The vehicle’s identity is securely verified at the station, ensuring only authorized vehicles can initiate a session.
- Automatic Payment: Billing is securely processed, providing a hands-free and hassle-free transaction.
The Future of Connected Mobility
The introduction of Plug & Charge reflects Kia’s broader mission to innovate in connected car mobility and sustainable transportation. By integrating in-vehicle software with mobile services and infrastructure partnerships, the company aims to build a more cohesive EV ecosystem.
This technology is one of several connected features designed to remove friction from the charging process and make EV ownership feel more intuitive. These innovations help transform the vehicle into a connected mobility tool that supports a smarter, more digitally integrated lifestyle.
