Legacy EV, a leader in electric vehicle education, has announced a new partnership with workforce development company SmarterHelp. The collaboration introduces a joint training solution aimed at preparing technicians for the entire electric vehicle ecosystem, from vehicle systems to charging infrastructure.
Key Highlights
- Legacy EV and SmarterHelp have partnered to launch a comprehensive EV technician training solution.
- The program offers two distinct certification paths: one for EV vehicles and one for EV charging equipment (EVSE).
- The collaboration aims to close the significant talent gap in the rapidly expanding clean transportation industry.
- The bundled training program will become available to educational and workforce organizations nationwide in Q1 2026.
A Comprehensive Training Solution
The partnership aligns two industry leaders to address the growing demand for skilled labor in clean transportation. The initiative offers scalable, hands-on training programs designed for schools, workforce boards, and other technical organizations. The core mission is to bridge the gap between vehicle and charger training, creating a proficient workforce ready to support the EV industry’s growth.
Specialized Certification Pathways
The new bundled program begins with a foundational course, “Intro to EV Jobs,” covering essential topics such as electrical theory, high-voltage safety, and charging systems. After completing the introduction, learners can specialize in one of two certification pathways:
- EV Technician Pathway (Legacy EV): This track focuses on in-depth vehicle systems, diagnostics, and battery management.
- EVSE Technician Pathway (SmarterHelp): This track centers on charging station commissioning and maintenance.
Addressing the Workforce Demand
Leaders from both organizations emphasized the importance of a skilled workforce. Mavrick Knoles, President of Legacy EV, stated that the EV revolution depends on people as much as technology and that this partnership provides a clear path to meaningful careers. Kianna Scott, CEO of SmarterHelp, highlighted the mission to make green jobs accessible to all communities.
The U.S. Department of Energy projects the creation of more than 6 million clean-energy jobs by 2035, with the EV sector being one of the fastest-growing segments. This partnership directly addresses the current skills shortage by combining expertise in vehicle electrification and charging infrastructure to accelerate workforce readiness.
