ChargePoint, a leader in networked charging solutions for electric vehicles (EVs), and global innovator LG Electronics (LG) have announced a strategic partnership aimed at leveraging their respective strengths to drive future innovations in EV charging.
Key Highlights:
- Collaboration to Launch Commercial Charging Solutions: ChargePoint’s industry-leading charger management software will be integrated with LG’s advanced EV charging hardware. Deliveries are expected to begin later this summer.
- Exploring Additional Areas of Collaboration: Potential future projects include combining ChargePoint solutions with LG energy storage systems, integrating the LG ThinQ smart home platform with ChargePoint’s Home Flex residential charger, and leveraging LG’s digital-out-of-home advertising platform.
- Commitment to World-Class Charging Experience: “LG shares ChargePoint’s commitment to enabling a world-class charging experience for all EV drivers, regardless of make, model, or connector type,” said Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint.
- Expanding EV Charger Market: Suh Heung-kyu, Global Head of the Electric Vehicle Charging business division of LG, emphasized the synergy between the two companies and their goal to become global leaders in the EV charging business.
Strategic Partnership Details
LG’s AC and DC charging stations will operate using ChargePoint software, forming a new suite of offerings. This partnership aims to enhance ChargePoint’s expansive network of over 306,000 charging ports with LG’s reliable and high-quality EV chargers. The collaboration is expected to benefit both companies, as well as ChargePoint’s customers and drivers, by providing hardware solutions where ChargePoint currently lacks an ideal option.
Targeting Public Sector Infrastructure Projects
The companies anticipate that their joint solutions will offer a competitive package for public sector infrastructure projects, which require high-quality domestic production and elevated information security levels. LG’s U.S.-made EV chargers are UL-certified for stability and ENERGY STAR® certified for efficiency. These chargers will be paired with ChargePoint’s FedRAMP-authorized cloud software, allowing them to bid for U.S. federal government projects.
Strengthening Market Position
Through this collaboration with ChargePoint, LG aims to solidify its position in the EV charger market and reinforce its reputation as a reliable and innovative provider of EV charging solutions. This partnership underscores LG’s commitment to expanding its presence in the global EV charging infrastructure market, building on the momentum from its new factory for advanced EV charger stations in Fort Worth, Texas.
