Magna has secured a program award from Chery for a 250kW, 800-volt two-speed electric drive system, with production planned at the supplier’s new facility in Wuhu, China. The company describes the award as a milestone in its electrification strategy in the Chinese market and says the system is built on its modular electrification portfolio, which supports a range of battery electric vehicle applications and flexible integration across global platforms. The award follows the start of series production of Magna’s DHD Duo dedicated hybrid drive with the same customer.

What the 800V eDrive System Delivers
The awarded unit is a 250kW 800V two-speed eDrive. Magna says the system is engineered for performance, efficiency and scalability through a compact, integrated design, and that its architecture is intended to optimize power density, improve energy efficiency and support driving performance.
The company says the system draws on its modular electrification portfolio, which allows a single architecture to serve multiple battery electric vehicle applications rather than requiring a bespoke drive unit per platform. Magna frames that modularity as the basis for integrating the system across global platforms.
Eight-hundred-volt architectures have become a competitive marker in the Chinese passenger EV market, where higher system voltage supports faster charging rates and reduced current draw. Magna’s release does not state charging figures, vehicle applications, or a start-of-production date for the Chery program.
Why Wuhu Matters
The program will be produced at Magna’s new Wuhu facility. Wuhu is Chery’s home base in Anhui province, and locating the eDrive program there puts the supplier’s production alongside the customer’s operations.
Magna positions the assignment as evidence of its ability to bring electric drive technologies into localized production for Chinese automakers — a requirement that has grown as domestic OEMs compress development timelines and press suppliers for in-country manufacturing.
Building on the DHD Duo Program With Chery
The eDrive award is the second Magna-Chery propulsion program to reach a milestone. The company’s DHD Duo dedicated hybrid drive system, first announced in 2024, has now entered series production on the Jetour G700. Magna cites the program as evidence of its ability to industrialize high-voltage propulsion systems at scale.
Taken together, the two programs span hybrid and full-electric propulsion with a single Chinese customer.

Magna’s earlier hybrid work in this space includes the DHD REX range-extender drive, a single-motor system introduced for range-extended electric vehicles. Chery’s own electrified lineup continues to expand, including the Tiggo V shown at Auto China 2026.
