Mercedes-Benz, ChargePoint Partner on Fleet Charging

Mercedes-Benz and ChargePoint are partnering on end-to-end fleet charging for business customers in the UK and Germany, covering site planning, AC and DC hardware installation, load management and energy reporting.

Mercedes-Benz and ChargePoint have formed a partnership to deliver end-to-end charging for business fleets in the United Kingdom and Germany, spanning initial site planning through installation, operation and ongoing service. The offering is aimed at businesses and fleets of all sizes and covers company car drivers running passenger cars as well as light- and medium-duty vans. According to Mercedes-Benz, the two companies will develop tailored infrastructure concepts only after assessing a customer’s requirements and site conditions, with ChargePoint specialists carrying out the hardware installation.

Highlights

  • The partnership launches in two markets, the United Kingdom and Germany, with the companies saying they plan to expand to other markets this year
  • Coverage extends to passenger cars and light- and medium-duty vans used by company car drivers
  • Installation covers both AC and DC charging hardware, specified against fleet size, operational needs and future scalability
  • Solar photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage and additional smart energy management can be integrated into a site

What the Partnership Covers

The joint offering bundles planning, installation, operation and ongoing service of on-site charging networks into a single customer relationship. Mercedes-Benz fleet and workplace customers gain access to ChargePoint‘s team for site assessment, infrastructure planning, installation and continuing support.

ChargePoint characterizes the agreement as an extension of an existing commercial relationship rather than a new one.

“As part of our long-standing relationship with Mercedes-Benz, we have been providing the company with a range of charging solutions,” said Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint. “We are now taking our partnership to a new level. By combining our proven expertise with our partner’s leadership in high-end electric vehicles, ChargePoint and Mercedes-Benz are delivering a seamless, comprehensive experience that helps business customers lower the total cost of ownership with charging infrastructure that meets operational requirements.”

How Sites Get Specified and Built

Infrastructure concepts are drawn up following an assessment of the customer’s requirements and site conditions. The companies say four inputs drive the specification: fleet size, operational needs, future scalability and the business’s sustainability objectives.

ChargePoint specialists then install the AC and DC charging hardware. The companies say the arrangement is structured to limit operational disruption during installation and to support system reliability afterward.

Software and Energy Management

The charging solutions carry intelligent load management for site performance, along with automated energy reporting and cost analysis. ChargePoint says its software platform supplies energy insights and financial analysis intended to simplify fleet reporting workflows — the same category of fleet charging software the company has previously integrated with Mercedes-Benz-branded vehicles.

Sites can also incorporate solar photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage and additional smart energy management components.

Why Workplace Charging Is the Gap

Mercedes-Benz frames the offering as filling a specific hole in its charging portfolio, positioned between home and public charging rather than replacing either.

“Our business customers expect solutions that extend far beyond the vehicle itself. With our new workplace charging offering, we are closing a key gap in the charging ecosystem for fleet customers, complementing both home and public charging. This enables companies to electrify their fleets in a cost-effective manner and accelerate their transition to electric mobility through a fully integrated, end-to-end solution,” said Nico Dettmer, Global Head of Mercedes-Benz Charging Solutions, Mercedes-Benz AG.

The structure follows a pattern visible elsewhere in UK fleet electrification, where providers consolidate hardware, installation and software billing into one contracted relationship. ChargePoint says the partnership is intended to reduce total cost of ownership and maintain continuous fleet readiness, with expansion to further markets planned this year.
