The BMW 5 Series lineup expands with the market launch of the new BMW 5 Series Touring and the debut of the all-electric BMW i5 Touring. These models, along with forthcoming plug-in hybrid and diesel variants, mark a significant step in BMW’s commitment to electrification and performance.

The sixth generation of the BMW 5 Series Touring is now available in Europe and Japan, combining sporty design with premium features. The introduction of the BMW i5 Touring marks BMW’s first all-electric offering in this segment, continuing the brand’s strategic shift towards electrification.

New BMW 5 Series Models Unveiled

Electric Models:

  • The BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring boasts up to 442 kW/601 hp, with a combined power consumption of 20.9 – 18.4 kWh/100 km (62 miles) and a range of 441 – 503 km (274 – 313 miles).
  • The BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring offers up to 250 kW/340 hp, a power consumption of 19.3 – 16.5 kWh/100 km (62 miles), and a range of 483 – 560 km (300 – 348 miles).

Diesel Models:

  • The BMW 520d Touring and BMW 520d xDrive Touring are equipped with a four-cylinder diesel engine, 48-volt mild hybrid technology, and a maximum output of 145 kW/197 hp. Fuel consumption is 5.9 – 5.3 l/100 km and 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km, respectively.

Plug-In Hybrid Expansion

In summer 2024, the BMW 5 Series Touring will include plug-in hybrid variants:

  • BMW 530e Touring: 22.6 – 20.6 kWh/100 km and an electric range of 83 – 95 km (52 – 55 miles).
  • BMW 530e xDrive Touring: 23.7 – 21.7 kWh/100 km with an electric range of 82 – 89 km (51 – 55 miles).

The plug-in hybrid models utilize a four-cylinder petrol engine combined with an electric motor integrated into an 8-speed Steptronic transmission, delivering 220 kW/299 hp. The high-voltage battery offers a usable energy content of 19.4 kWh.

Additional Features:

  • No Compromise on Space: The plug-in hybrid models maintain the same luggage capacity as their combustion and all-electric counterparts, with a luggage capacity of 570 liters, expandable to 1,700 liters.
  • Upcoming Diesel Engine: Summer 2024 will see the addition of a six-cylinder in-line diesel engine for the BMW 5 Series. The BMW 540d xDrive Sedan and BMW 540d xDrive Touring will feature a maximum output of 223 kW/303 hp and a maximum torque of 670 Nm (494 lb/ft).
