Pilot, GM, EVgo Expand Charging Network

A partnership between Pilot, GM, and EVgo has expanded America's EV infrastructure, opening over 200 fast charging locations with nearly 850 stalls across almost 40 states.

A major collaboration between Pilot Company, General Motors, and EVgo has significantly expanded electric vehicle (EV) charging options for drivers across the United States. The joint network now features over 200 fast charging locations equipped with approximately 850 public fast charging stalls at Pilot and Flying J travel centers. This expansion provides critical infrastructure across nearly 40 states, making long-distance EV travel more convenient and accessible.

Key Highlights

  • The collaborative fast charging network now includes over 200 locations nationwide.
  • Drivers have access to approximately 850 new EV fast charging stalls.
  • The network has expanded its reach to nearly 40 states.
  • The partnership between Pilot, GM, and EVgo aims to enable coast-to-coast EV travel.
  • The ultimate goal is to build up to 2,000 fast charging stalls at 500 Pilot and Flying J locations.

Expanding National EV Infrastructure

In just over two years, the partnership has worked to bridge charging gaps along essential travel routes. The network’s growth has been rapid, expanding from just over 25 states to nearly 40 in less than a year. This effort specifically addresses the need for charging infrastructure in less-populated areas, noting that only 45% of rural counties had at least one fast charging stall at the start of 2025.

Some of the newest states to join the network include Colorado, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Significant expansion has also occurred across Texas, Missouri, and Florida. The strategic placement of these chargers along interstate corridors carries more than 20 percent of the total traffic in the U.S., directly supporting drivers on the nation’s busiest highways.

Enhancing the Driver Experience

The charging stations are designed to offer a seamless and convenient experience for EV drivers. Located at Pilot and Flying J travel centers, the sites provide access to a wide array of amenities, including free Wi-Fi, on-site restaurants, and convenience items. The chargers themselves are EVgo’s 350kW fast-chargers, capable of quickly refilling an EV’s range to get drivers back on their journey.

Many locations feature overhead canopies to protect drivers from the elements, and several include pull-through stalls that allow vehicles towing trailers to charge easily. To further streamline the process, the Plug and Charge feature is available throughout the network. This technology allows drivers with compatible EV models to automatically initiate and pay for a charging session simply by plugging in their vehicle. According to Wade Sheffer, vice president of GM Energy, this collaboration helps ensure that charging access does not get in the way of an EV journey.

A Collaborative Vision for Future Travel

First announced in 2022, the collaboration between Pilot, General Motors, and EVgo is nearly halfway to its goal of installing up to 2,000 fast charging stalls at up to 500 Pilot and Flying J locations across the country. The companies project that they will reach the milestone of 1,000 stalls across 40 states by the end of 2025. This ongoing investment in critical charging infrastructure is designed to give EV drivers the freedom and confidence to travel anywhere, anytime.
