Porsche is set to simplify the electric vehicle ownership experience with the introduction of its new wireless charging system. The company is poised to become the first automotive manufacturer to bring an 11 kW inductive charging system to market for battery-electric vehicles. This innovative technology features a one-box base plate, eliminating the need for a separate wallbox or control unit and making home charging more convenient than ever.
Key Highlights
- The system delivers a maximum charging power of up to 11 kW, matching the level of many wired AC chargers.
- The all-electric generation of the Cayenne, set for its world premiere at the end of 2025, will be the first model to offer this feature.
- The Porsche Wireless Charging floor plate will be available for purchase at Porsche Centers and online starting in 2026.
- Energy transfer efficiency from the power grid to the vehicle’s battery is up to 90 percent.
- The new Cayenne Electric will also set new standards with a DC fast-charging capability of up to 400 kW.
Streamlining the Home Charging Experience
Recognizing that approximately 75 percent of all charging for all-electric Porsche vehicles occurs at home, the company has focused on making this process seamless. The user-friendly floor plate, measuring 117 by 78 by 6 centimeters, can be installed in a garage, carport, or outdoor parking space. For a professional setup, customers can utilize the Porsche Installation Service to have an electrician install and commission the unit.
To use the system, the vehicle must be equipped with the optional Porsche Wireless Charging pre-installation and a vehicle plate. This receiver unit is positioned on the vehicle’s underbody between the front wheels, protected from weather and road debris.
How Porsche Wireless Charging Works
Charging is as simple as parking the vehicle over the floor plate. Using ultra-wideband technology, the system helps guide the driver to the optimal position via a special view in the Surround View parking function. Once the Cayenne is correctly positioned and the parking brake is engaged, the vehicle automatically lowers slightly and the charging process begins without any further action from the driver.
The energy transfer occurs contactlessly over a distance of a few centimeters via a magnetic field generated between a transmitter coil in the floor plate and a receiver coil in the vehicle. For safety, the system includes a motion detector and foreign object detection, which automatically halts charging if a living creature or metallic object comes between the vehicle and the plate. The entire process can be monitored through the My Porsche app, which also supports timer charging and vehicle authentication.

Robust Design and Powerful Performance
The Porsche Wireless Charging base plate is built to last. Weighing just over 50 kilograms, it is weatherproof and durable enough to be driven over without sustaining significant damage. The system has undergone extensive testing by organizations like TÜV Süd and is CE and UL certified, meeting stringent safety and environmental requirements in both the EU and the United States. Electromagnetic radiation is safely limited to the vehicle’s underbody during charging.
For drivers on the go, the new Cayenne Electric also offers impressive fast-charging capabilities. It is expected to support a DC charging power of up to 400 kW, enabling rapid recharging at compatible stations like the Porsche Charging Lounge.
Innovative Technology on Display
Porsche is showcasing the new technology with an innovative prototype at the IAA MOBILITY in Munich. This demonstration vehicle features a unique, dynamic camouflage pattern created with a special fluorescent paint. Composed of over 25 ultra-thin layers, including electroluminescent material, the paint glows when electricity is applied, creating a stunning visual representation of the energy flow.
