Regio and IONITY Form Partnership to Expand EV Charging Network in Sweden

Munich, Germany, and Stockholm, Sweden – Regio, a Swedish property company, and IONITY, a high-power charging (HPC) network operator, have announced a strategic partnership to build 12 new stations in Sweden with 108 public high-power charging points. The stations will be located at retail sites on key highway junctions, from Skellefteå in the north to Karlskrona in the southeast of Sweden, and are aimed at both long-distance travelers and EV owners who want to incorporate fast, public charging into their everyday routines. The partnership plans to provide a charging capacity of up to 350 kW, allowing EV drivers to top up their batteries to 80% capacity in less than half an hour.

The 12 new sites will provide a significant addition to Sweden’s EV charging infrastructure, which has been growing rapidly in recent years due to the country’s efforts to decarbonize mobility. IONITY currently operates 23 stations and 136 high-power chargers in Sweden, but the growing number of EVs with an ever-increasing range of 500 km and more has made fast charging a key pillar of public infrastructure.

According to IONITY COO Marcus Groll, “Growing our high-power charging network across Europe is a top priority for us.” The partnership with Regio marks a major step forward in expanding IONITY’s presence in Sweden by offering charging hubs in urban areas. Regio CEO Eric Bergström adds that the partnership will not just create value for tenants and their customers, but also make a significant contribution to addressing the shortage of public EV chargers in Sweden.

The planning process for the 12 new stations has already started, with most of them expected to be built in 2023. Each site will be providing between six to twelve high-power chargers, making it possible for EV drivers to conveniently integrate charging into their daily commute while improving the long-distance electric travel experience. The IONITY network is open to electric vehicles of all brands that use the standard CCS plug. All stations provide a consistent customer experience, barrier-free access, and customer support in nine languages available 24/7.
