Blink Charging Co., WirelessCar, and ChargeHub have announced a collaborative pilot program, ‘Seamless Charging’, set to launch across the United States and Canada. This initiative aims to significantly simplify the electric vehicle (EV) charging experience, making it more convenient and accessible for drivers.

Key Highlights

  • Collaborative Effort: Blink Charging, WirelessCar, and ChargeHub partner for the initiative.
  • Pilot Program: Launch of the innovative ‘Seamless Charging’ program.
  • Geographic Focus: Program to operate in the United States and Canada.
  • Primary Goal: To redefine and simplify the EV charging process for users.
  • Simplified Access: A single-app signup through ChargeHub eliminates multiple accounts.
  • Automated Experience: Drivers plug in, and charging starts automatically without extra steps.

Many potential and current EV users find the existing charging infrastructure challenging. The proliferation of different apps, tags, and cards intended to streamline the process can, paradoxically, deter individuals, particularly if the experience is less convenient than refueling a traditional internal combustion engine vehicle. This fragmentation is a notable barrier to wider EV adoption.

The ‘Seamless Charging’ initiative directly addresses these obstacles. By leveraging advanced connected services, EV drivers will only need a one-time registration with the ChargeHub app and activation of the ‘Seamless Charging’ feature. Following this, users can simply plug their vehicle into any Blink charging station, and the charging session will commence automatically. There is no need to interact with multiple apps or manage various accounts at the point of charging.

This enhanced convenience is powered by WirelessCar’s innovative technology, which utilizes connected vehicle data and real-time events. The system facilitates communication between the vehicle and the charging provider. Once an EV is plugged in, the driver receives a notification that charging has begun, eliminating the need for cards or additional manual steps. This is particularly beneficial for drivers who lack regular access to home charging solutions, offering them a radically more convenient public charging experience.

Leaders from the collaborating companies have expressed enthusiasm for the pilot. Mike Battaglia, President and CEO of Blink, highlighted the project’s aim to improve accessibility and convenience for EV drivers, ensuring a smooth transition to electric mobility. Niklas Florén, CEO of WirelessCar, emphasized that ‘Seamless Charging’ turns vehicle data into everyday convenience by removing friction from public EV charging. Simon Ouellette, CEO of ChargeHub, reiterated his company’s mission to help drivers find and seamlessly pay at charging stations, underscoring the collaborative nature of achieving this important goal in EV infrastructure development.
