SMP Europe Investing More in EV Aftermarket Needs

Leader in engine management products, SMP Europe, has increased investment into research and development of electric vehicle (EV) parts, to produce new references for the increasing EV aftermarket.

SMP Europe, the home of the Intermotor, Lemark, and Lucas brands, has opened a new garage facility within its Nottingham-based UK Centre of Engineering with the capability of stripping electric vehicles to research and develop new applications.

John Wass, engineering director at SMP Europe, said: “The new facility enables the wider engineering team to investigate EVs and research how certain systems perform. Our new garage facility can find faults with standard equipment and utilize this new knowledge to develop more robust references for the ever-expanding cohort of EVs within the UK vehicle parc.”

Following the introduction of the new garage facility, SMP Europe is also set to offer technical training on electric vehicles, with engineers able to complete work to level 3 certifications.

SMP Europe has invested heavily in its technical and engineering resources, becoming the trusted authority on engine management, ignition, and emission products. The engineering team has grown from four to 16 members of staff in recent years, and additional investment has also implemented 3D printing to assist in rapid product prototyping.
