Subaru E-Outback and Uncharted Earn Five-Star Euro NCAP

Subaru's new E-Outback and Uncharted electric models have both earned a maximum five-star Euro NCAP rating, scoring 89% and 88% for adult occupant protection and 85% each for child occupants.

Subaru’s two new battery-electric models, the E-Outback and the Uncharted, have each earned the maximum five-star overall rating in the 2026 Euro NCAP crash-safety assessment. Subaru UK and Ireland reported that both vehicles scored above the minimum threshold in all four assessment areas: adult occupant, child occupant, vulnerable road users, and safety assist. Both are due as UK versions.

Highlights

  • Both the E-Outback and Uncharted received a five-star overall rating in the 2026 Euro NCAP assessment.
  • The E-Outback scored 89% for adult occupant protection and 85% for child occupant protection.
  • The Uncharted scored 88% for adult occupant protection and 85% for child occupant protection.
  • Both models cleared the minimum threshold in all four assessment areas: adult occupant, child occupant, vulnerable road users, and safety assist.

How the Two EVs Scored

The two models posted nearly identical results, separated by a single point in adult occupant protection. The E-Outback earned maximum marks for adult rear-impact tests and for crash performance based on six- and ten-year-old children, while the Uncharted took full marks for adult rear-impact tests and the child seat installation check.

E-Outback89%85%Adult rear-impact tests; child crash performance (six- and ten-year-old)
Uncharted88%85%Adult rear-impact tests; child seat installation check

The two cars add to a Subaru range that has paired hybrids with the all-electric Solterra.

Occupant Protection

For both cars, the passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal offset test, and dummy readings showed good protection of the knees and femurs for the driver and front passenger. Testing showed that occupants of different sizes and seating positions would receive a similar level of protection, with good protection across all critical body areas for the front passenger.

In the side barrier test, both vehicles protected all critical body areas and scored maximum points. Airbag performance was rated good for driver and passenger. Tests on the front seats and head restraints showed good whiplash protection in a rear-end collision, a result echoed by a geometric analysis of the rear seats.

Child Occupant Results

Both models protected the six- and ten-year-old dummies well across all critical body areas in the side barrier impact. In the Uncharted’s frontal offset test, protection of the six-year-old dummy was good across all critical body areas and good or adequate for the ten-year-old. In each car, the front passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing child restraint in that seating position.

Safety Assist Systems

The autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system on the E-Outback performed well in reacting to other vehicles. The model also carries a direct driver status monitoring system as standard, which detects driver fatigue, and a lane support system that gently corrects the car’s path when it drifts out of lane and intervenes in some more critical situations.

The Uncharted’s AEB system extends further, responding to vulnerable road users — pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists — as well as to other vehicles.
