From July 1, electric vehicle (EV) drivers in the UK can benefit from lower home charging costs due to a reduced Standard Variable Tariff (SVT) for electricity. The new rate of 25.73p/kWh makes home charging more affordable, but Ohme, the UK’s leading home EV charging company, offers even greater savings through smart and off-peak tariffs. By leveraging tariffs like Intelligent Octopus Go, drivers can charge at rates as low as 7p/kWh, significantly cutting costs. This shift not only reduces expenses but also supports sustainable driving by optimizing energy use.

Key Highlights:

  • Electricity price drop: New SVT rate of 25.73p/kWh starts July 1.
  • Ohme’s smart charging: Offers rates as low as 7p/kWh with tariffs like Intelligent Octopus Go.
  • Significant savings: Annual charging costs could drop from £437.41 (SVT) to £119 (smart tariff) for 6,800 miles.
  • Official partnerships: Ohme is the preferred charger provider for Mercedes-Benz, Volvo Cars, and Volkswagen Group.

Maximizing Savings with Smart Charging

Ohme’s dynamic charging solutions enable EV drivers to charge during off-peak hours, slashing costs. For example, fully charging a Volkswagen ID.5 (77kWh battery) costs just £5.39 for a 344-mile range using Intelligent Octopus Go, compared to £19.82 on the SVT. Over a year, a typical driver covering 6,800 miles could save over £300 compared to SVT rates and more than £800 compared to a petrol car.

Ohme’s Role in EV Charging

Founded in 2017, Ohme leads the UK’s home EV charging market, offering smart chargers that integrate with energy tariffs to minimize costs and environmental impact. Recognized as a potential “gigacorn,” Ohme could reduce one gigatonne of CO2 annually. It partners with major brands like Hyundai and Motability, ensuring reliable, eco-friendly charging solutions.
