UL & Hyundai Mobis Team Up for Battery Safety & Performance

As electric vehicle (EV) adoption surges globally, concerns about battery safety and performance remain a crucial hurdle. To address these challenges, industry leaders UL Solutions and Hyundai Mobis North America Electrified Powertrain have joined forces.

Through a newly signed memorandum of understanding (MOU), the companies will collaborate in North America to evaluate and improve the safety and performance of EV batteries. This partnership leverages UL Solutions‘ expertise in applied safety science and Hyundai Mobis North America Electrified Powertrain’s proficiency in battery development and production.

The collaboration will focus on:

  • Rigorous testing: EV batteries will undergo comprehensive testing at the UL Solutions North America Advanced Battery Laboratory, set to open in 2024, ensuring they meet stringent reliability, performance, and safety standards.
  • Regulatory compliance: Testing will verify adherence to relevant regulations, fostering consumer confidence and smoother market entry for EV batteries.
  • Standards development: Hyundai Mobis North America Electrified Powertrain will actively participate in UL Solutions’ working groups, contributing to the development of vital EV safety and performance standards.
