BMW Electrified Sales Reach One in Four Worldwide

More than one in four BMW Group vehicles sold worldwide in the first half of 2026 was electrified, with fully electric models reaching around 28% of European sales.

More than one in four vehicles the BMW Group sold worldwide in the first half of 2026 was electrified, and fully electric models accounted for around 28% of sales in Europe. The company reports that European BEV volume climbed 38% to 81,445 units in the second quarter as availability of the iX3 increased. The BMW Group has now delivered around 3.5 million electrified vehicles, including plug-in hybrids, since the first i3 went on sale in late 2013.

Highlights

  • Fully electric models made up around 28% of BMW Group sales in Europe in the first half of 2026
  • European BEV deliveries rose 38% to 81,445 units in the second quarter
  • One in three fully electric BMWs ordered in Europe since the iX3 premiere has been an iX3
  • Around 3.5 million electrified vehicles delivered worldwide since 2013, two million of them battery-electric

Europe Leads the Electrified Mix

Europe is carrying the group’s electrification curve. Second-quarter BEV sales on BMW’s home continent grew 38% to 81,445 units, which the company attributes to wider availability of the iX3. Across the first half, fully electric vehicles made up around 28% of total sales in the region.

The worldwide picture is less concentrated but moving in the same direction. More than one in every four vehicles the group sold globally in the first six months of 2026 carried an electrified drivetrain, counting both battery-electric models and plug-in hybrids.

How Much of BMW’s European EV Demand Is the iX3?

A single model is doing much of the work. Since the world premiere of the iX3, one in three fully electric BMW vehicles ordered in Europe has been an iX3, and within the X3 family, one of every two vehicles ordered is already the fully electric version. That order concentration follows the surge in European BEV orders the company reported earlier this year.

“Selling two million BEVs underlines how BMW and MINI models are winning over customers worldwide. In Europe, the positive development has continued since the market launch of the BMW iX3, and we will soon be reaching the milestone of 100,000 new orders. This shows the tremendous importance of the Neue Klasse for the ongoing ramp-up of electromobility at the BMW Group,” said Jochen Goller, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brands, Sales.

Two-Millionth BEV Delivered in Spain

The cumulative BEV total passed two million in August with the handover of a BMW i5 M60 xDrive to a customer in Spain. The car was built at Plant Dingolfing, the group’s largest European vehicle plant. The two million figure covers customer deliveries since sales of the original i3 began in late 2013.

i3 Production Ramps at Plant Munich

Plant Munich started series production of the new i3 in August, and the company says demand is producing a fast ramp-up curve at the site.

“The second Neue Klasse model, the BMW i3, is already seeing strong demand since orders opened ahead of its market launch,” Goller said.
