Volkswagen has been awarded the AutomotiveINNOVATIONS Award 2024 as the most innovative volume brand in electric drive systems. This prestigious award, presented by the Center of Automotive Management (CAM), highlights Volkswagen’s extensive achievements in electric mobility technology. Key areas of innovation include range improvements, power consumption optimization, and enhanced charging capacity. The Volkswagen ID.7, the brand’s first electric vehicle in the upper mid-sized segment, also received positive evaluations.

- Range Optimization:
- Volkswagen ID.5: Improved range up to 556 km according to WLTP.
- Power Consumption:
- Volkswagen ID.7: Achieves the lowest consumption in its segment.
- Charging Capacity:
- Volkswagen ID.3: Increased maximum charging capacity from 135 kW to 170 kW.
- Electric Ecosystem:
- Volkswagen ID. Buzz: Features preconditioning of the battery and integrated Plug & Charge function.
- Other Innovations:
- Volkswagen ID.7: Equipped with AP550 permanent magnet electric motor offering 210 kW output and 550 Nm torque while consuming 50% less power than the 150 kW drive motor.
- Market launch of the ID.7 as a new product in the upper mid-sized segment.
Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, accepted the award in Wolfsburg, stating, “Truly impressive vehicles are a prerequisite for the success of electric mobility. This coveted award underlines the innovative advances made in all new ID. models. The Center of Automotive Management (CAM), led by Professor Stefan Bratzel, has been assessing and evaluating product innovations from global automotive companies since 2005. For the 2023/24 period, CAM analyzed innovations from 30 global vehicle manufacturers and around 100 automotive brands, assessing 709 individual OEM innovations in areas like Electric Drive, Autonomous Driving & ADAS, and Infotainment & Connectivity. Criteria for the evaluation included maturity level, originality, customer benefit, and degree of innovation.
Volkswagen’s recognition as the most innovative volume brand in electric drives underscores its commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric mobility and enhancing the driving experience for its customers.
