Volvo’s commitment to electrification is evident as it opens access to over 17,800 Tesla Superchargers across North America. This new addition will complement the existing network of fast-charge stations already available to Volvo EV owners. Starting with the 2025 model year, new fully electric Volvo vehicles, including the flagship EX90 SUV, will come equipped with North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters, allowing seamless charging at both Tesla Superchargers and other compatible stations.

For those already driving fully electric Volvo models, NACS adapters are now available for pre-order through authorized Volvo retailers in the U.S. and Canada for $230 USD or $310 CAD. Shipments will begin on November 18, 2024, expanding charging options for these drivers as well. The availability of adapters for the EX30 will be announced at a later date.

The integration of Tesla’s charging infrastructure into Volvo’s network further simplifies EV ownership. With the Volvo Cars app, users can not only locate thousands of public charging stations but also receive real-time updates on charger availability and handle payments through a single interface. Directions to nearby stations can also be provided via Google Assistant, enhancing the ease of travel for Volvo EV drivers.

As Mike Cottone, President of Volvo Car USA and Canada, noted, “Today we are taking a major step to providing access to easy and convenient charging infrastructure for Volvo drivers in the United States and Canada, furthering our commitment to EV adoption.”

Volvo’s broader mission is reflected in its goal to become a fully electric carmaker by 2030 and achieve climate neutrality by 2040. This initiative to open up Tesla’s Supercharger network to Volvo drivers marks another key milestone in the brand’s sustainability journey.
