XCharge has launched an expanded field test with EnBW, deploying 10 charging stations across four locations in Germany’s Baden-Württemberg region. The collaboration marks a significant step in evaluating XCharge’s DC fast-charging technology for potential integration into EnBW’s HyperNet, the country’s largest high-power charging network.
Highlights
- Ten XCharge C7 chargers are now operational at four EnBW sites including Stuttgart, Rutesheim, and two Karlsruhe locations
- EnBW operates over 8,000 fast-charging points across Germany, making it the nation’s largest high-power charging network
- XCharge’s C7 Ultra-Fast Charger delivers up to 400 kW at 600 A with dual CCS connectors
- Lab testing analyzed several thousand charging processes before the expanded field deployment began
Testing Locations and Scope
The field test includes two XCharge units at EnBW City in Stuttgart, with additional installations at Rutesheim, Karlsruhe Durlach Center, and Karlsruhe central train station. EnBW had previously deployed a single charger near Stuttgart in August 2025 as an initial evaluation.
Laboratory and field trials conducted over the past year provided the foundation for this expansion. Volker Rimpler, Chief Technology Officer E-Mobility at EnBW, noted that XCharge demonstrated strong capability across technology, service, data protection, and software throughout the evaluation process.
C7 Ultra-Fast Charger Specifications
The chargers under test utilize XCharge’s C7 platform, which offers the following capabilities:
- Power output up to 400 kW at a maximum of 600 A
- Dual CCS connectors for simultaneous vehicle charging
- Touchscreen interface for user interaction
- Modular design enabling simplified installation and maintenance
- Optional liquid-cooled or air-cooled cables for high-load operation
- Legal-for-billing certification ensuring compliance with European measurement regulations
Strategic Significance for Both Companies
For XCharge (NASDAQ: XCH), the partnership validates its technology against the standards of Germany’s leading charge point operator. Albina Iljasov, Head of Europe at XCharge, described Germany as a key market where the company continues to expand its presence.
XCharge maintains dual headquarters in Hamburg and Austin, Texas. The company, founded in 2015, specializes in DC fast chargers and battery-integrated charging solutions. Its European subsidiary, XCharge Europe GmbH, has operated from Hamburg since 2017 and opened a new test lab in 2024 alongside a technical center in Madrid.
