EVgo Brixmor Expansion Adds 500+ Fast Charging Stalls

EVgo and Brixmor Property Group are adding more than 500 fast charging stalls across at least 90 U.S. shopping centers, with deployment beginning later this year at Barn Plaza near Philadelphia.

EVgo and Brixmor Property Group are expanding their charging partnership to add more than 500 new fast charging stalls across U.S. shopping centers. Once the buildout is complete, at least 90 Brixmor centers — more than 25% of the real estate investment trust’s portfolio — will host EVgo fast chargers. The companies say deployment begins later this year, with the first site of the expanded agreement expected at Barn Plaza in a Philadelphia suburb.

Highlights

  • More than 500 new fast charging stalls planned across Brixmor properties in the U.S.
  • At least 90 shopping centers, representing more than 25% of Brixmor’s portfolio, will feature EVgo chargers once complete
  • Six new states in the mix: Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Texas
  • Up to 12 high-power chargers per site, with the first expanded-partnership location expected at Barn Plaza near Philadelphia

Where the New Chargers Are Going

New locations under the expanded agreement span Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Deployment starts later this year, beginning with Barn Plaza in suburban Philadelphia.

The scale of the commitment is notable against EVgo’s existing footprint. The company says it operates more than 1,200 fast charging stations across 47 states, deploying infrastructure through partnerships with retailers, grocery stores, restaurants, shopping centers, gas stations, rideshare operators, and autonomous vehicle companies.

Why Shopping Centers?

The new Brixmor sites will feature up to 12 high-power EVgo chargers each — a configuration EVgo describes as well suited to grocery store locations, which the average American household visits two to three times per week, according to Food Industry Association data cited in the announcement. EVgo also points to Consumer Reports research indicating that installing EV infrastructure delivers increased foot traffic and customer spending to nearby businesses.

“Drivers across the U.S. want infrastructure options that integrate seamlessly into their routines, and shopping centers are an ideal place to get groceries, grab a bite or shop while charging,” said Scott Levitan, Executive Vice President, Growth at EVgo. “Expanding our partnership with Brixmor will help make EV charging even more accessible for drivers across the country while supporting the growing demand for public charging in everyday, convenient locations.”

A Partnership Dating to 2016

The expansion builds on a decade-long relationship. EVgo deployed its first charger with Brixmor in 2016 at a shopping center in Pleasanton, California, and the two companies have added sites since.

For Brixmor, the buildout is framed as a tenant-and-traffic play rather than an energy one — consistent with how other shopping center operators have approached charging hosts.

“At Brixmor, we’re committed to ensuring our shopping centers continue to meet the evolving needs of our customers and communities,” said Laura McLaughlin, VP, Specialty Leasing, Brixmor Property Group. “Expanding EV charging infrastructure across our portfolio enhances convenience, supports growing consumer demand and reinforces our focus on creating vibrant destinations where people can seamlessly shop, dine and access everyday services.”
