GILLIG, a premier U.S. transit bus manufacturer, has significantly expanded its operations. On February 26, 2024, the company disclosed that GERCO LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary, acquired select assets from Lightning eMotors through a receivership sale. This strategic move includes the hiring of former Lightning engineering staff and the establishment of the new Colorado Technology Center, aimed at enhancing GILLIG’s engineering capabilities in electric powertrain technology.
Located in Loveland, Colorado, Lightning was known for its work on commercial vehicle repowering and electric powertrain development. GERCO emerged as the chosen buyer through a court-appointed receiver, with the transaction receiving judicial approval. It’s important to note that Lightning’s operational facets, particularly its commercial vehicle sales and services, were discontinued before GERCO’s acquisition and are not part of the takeover.
This acquisition aligns with GILLIG‘s objective to bolster its leadership in the zero-emission bus market. The company, already recognized as a leader in zero-emission transit solutions, sees this expansion as a vital step towards meeting the growing demand for sustainable transportation options.
