Hyundai Motor Company has entered into a significant agreement with Iveco Group to supply an all-electric Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) for the European market, based on Hyundai’s pioneering Global eLCV platform. This collaboration marks a notable advancement in the electrification of commercial transport, aligning with the automotive industry’s shift towards sustainability.
The partnership, first established in March 2022, has already yielded impressive outcomes in hydrogen-powered transport, including the eDAILY FCEV and E-WAY FCEV city bus. The new supply agreement, celebrated at Hyundai’s Seoul headquarters, extends this collaboration, emphasizing both companies’ dedication to carbon-neutral mobility.
The vehicle, sporting the Iveco badge, will be the inaugural model to utilize Hyundai’s Global eLCV platform outside Korea. This platform is designed for commercial vehicles ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 tons GVW, featuring a low-floor design to optimize cargo loading efficiency, highlighting Hyundai’s commitment to innovation in electric vehicle (EV) technology.
Manufacturing and distribution of the Iveco-badged chassis cab will be conducted by Hyundai for the European sector, with Iveco Group customizing and distributing the vehicles through its extensive sales network. The anticipation builds for the vehicle’s launch at the IAA Transportation 2024 event in Hannover, Germany.
Luca Sra, President of the Truck Business Unit at Iveco Group, expressed enthusiasm for the venture, citing the crucial role of urban and suburban delivery in Europe’s logistics sector. Sra’s confidence in the collaboration’s potential to enhance their product lineup and foster a deeper partnership with Hyundai was evident.
