MINI Launches Next-Gen Cooper Electric, Redefining Urban Driving Fun

What’s Happening

The latest addition to the MINI family, the MINI Cooper Electric, has been launched, featuring the iconic MINI 3-door design and two power levels. The model offers an agile driving experience and represents the future of locally emission-free premium mobility. The all-electric MINI Cooper SE, first launched in 2020, saw a 25.5% increase in sales in 2022, making it the most popular MINI model with over 43,000 units sold worldwide last year. Currently, one in five MINIs on the road is electrically powered.

Why It Matters

The MINI Cooper Electric’s launch underscores the brand’s commitment to electric vehicles (EVs) and highlights the growing popularity of EVs in general. The production anniversary of the one millionth MINI 3-door of the current generation, also fully electric, demonstrates the continued success of the original MINI.

Key Points

  • Offers an electrified go-kart feeling with maximum torque right from the start in both the MINI Cooper E (135 kW output) and the MINI Cooper SE (160 kW output).
  • The lithium-ion high-voltage battery is installed in the floor of the vehicle for optimum road holding, weight distribution, stability, and agility.
  • MINI leveraged BMW Group’s development expertise to further improve driving dynamics in the new MINI Cooper Electric.
  • The battery capacity for the MINI Cooper E is 40.7 kWh, while the MINI Cooper SE has a capacity of 54.2 kWh, offering a predicted range of 300 to 400 kilometers.
  • The vehicle features a purpose-built design with maximum flexibility, including a variable luggage compartment volume and four seats.

Bottom Line

The MINI Cooper Electric is set to redefine urban driving fun with its enhanced driving dynamics, improved range, and maximum flexibility. Along with the MINI Countryman, which will be produced at the BMW Group Plant Leipzig from November 2023, and the upcoming MINI Aceman in 2024, the MINI Cooper Electric is ready for the all-electric future of MINI.
