Polestar’s Charging Network Expansion

Polestar has joined forces with Plugsurfing to unveil Polestar Charge, a new public charging service in Europe. This initiative provides Polestar electric vehicle (EV) drivers with unparalleled access to over 650,000 charging points across the continent. By incorporating major charging networks, including the Tesla Supercharger and IONITY, Polestar Charge positions itself as a comprehensive solution for EV charging needs. The service introduces a novel approach by integrating these networks into a single platform, enhancing the charging experience for Polestar drivers.

Key Highlights:

  • Extensive Access: Over 650,000 charging points across Europe.
  • Major Networks Included: Tesla Supercharger, IONITY, and more.
  • Subscription Benefits: Up to 30% discount at select charging points.
  • Tesla Supercharger Integration: A first for a European OEM.
  • Upcoming Vehicle Launches: Polestar 3 and 4 SUVs.
  • Simplified Charging Process: Reduced need for multiple subscriptions and apps.

Polestar’s strategic collaboration with Plugsurfing marks a significant step forward in addressing the infrastructure needs of electric vehicle owners. Polestar Charge not only simplifies the process of finding and using public chargers but also offers financial incentives, such as a 30% discount on charging rates at over 28,000 points for subscribers.

The integration of the Tesla Supercharger network is particularly noteworthy, making Polestar the first European OEM to do so. This move, coupled with the adoption of Tesla’s NACS charging standard in North America, and the expansion of access to the Supercharger network in China, underscores Polestar’s commitment to enhancing charging accessibility and convenience for its customers globally.

Ahead of the launch of the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 luxury electric SUVs, the company emphasizes the importance of a seamless charging experience. Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, highlighted the integration with Google Maps for easy location of charging stations and the optimization of charging stops, which includes a battery pre-conditioning feature to maximize charging speed.

Polestar Charge is designed to alleviate the concerns of EV owners about charging availability, offering a user-friendly interface and a comprehensive network. This initiative is poised to significantly enhance the EV ownership experience, ensuring that drivers have ready access to charging stations across Europe, without the hassle of managing multiple apps and subscriptions.
