The fourth-generation Porsche Cayenne will be all-electric and is already undergoing a rigorous test program. Porsche is also advancing its hybrid and combustion engine models, ensuring the SUV will have three powertrain variants available worldwide well into the next decade.
Key Highlights:
- Fourth-generation Cayenne to be all-electric
- Hybrid and combustion engine models to continue
- Three powertrain variants to be available worldwide
- Major technological investments in current generation
- Over 80% of Porsche cars to be fully electrified by 2030

For over 20 years, the Cayenne has balanced Porsche driving performance, everyday comfort, and off-road capability. The future models will continue this legacy. “The Cayenne has always defined the sports car in its segment. In the middle of the decade, the fourth generation will set standards in the segment as an electric SUV,” says Blume, CEO of Porsche AG. The third generation will also be upgraded and offered alongside the new electric model.
The current Cayenne generation, recently upgraded, will see further technological advancements, especially in the V8 engine’s efficiency, ensuring compliance with future legislative requirements.
Commitment to Electromobility
Porsche is committed to electromobility, with a goal of over 80% of new cars being fully electrified by 2030. The fourth-generation Cayenne, based on an advanced Premium Platform Electric (PPE) with 800-volt architecture, is designed to boost Porsche’s electromobility efforts. “The flexibility of the PPE architecture allows us to integrate the latest technology in the fields of high-voltage systems, powertrain, and chassis. We are going to utilize the potential of electrification to take the Cayenne to a completely new level in a number of ways – for instance, in driving performance,” says Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board for Research and Development at Porsche AG.

Extensive Testing Underway
Following digital development and initial test drives, the first camouflaged prototypes of the all-electric Cayenne have left the factory. “The real-world testing has begun, and this is one of the most important milestones of the development process,” says Michael Schätzle, Vice President Product Line Cayenne. By the launch, prototypes will complete millions of test kilometers worldwide under extreme conditions, ensuring durability, reliability, and adherence to Porsche’s high quality standards.
