Wink Motors Launches $19,995 Street-Legal Microcar EV in the U.S.

Wink Motors launches the Mark3, a $19,995 street-legal electric microcar with LFP battery technology, available in 49 U.S. states for roads posted at 35 mph or below.

Wink Motors has introduced the Mark3, a fully enclosed electric microcar priced at $19,995 that the company calls the lowest-cost street-legal electric micro-vehicle currently available in the United States. The five-door hatchback is engineered to meet U.S. Department of Transportation requirements and is eligible for license plates in 49 states for use on public roads with posted speed limits up to 35 mph. New York State is currently excluded.

Highlights

  • Priced at $19,995 with no required add-ons, the Mark3 is positioned as the most affordable street-legal microcar EV in the U.S. market.
  • Street-legal, insurable, and plate-eligible in 49 states for roads posted at 35 mph or below; New York State is currently excluded.
  • Over 30 safety features exceed federal low-speed vehicle standards, including DOT-rated three-point seatbelts, front disc brakes, and a reinforced steel unibody.
  • LFP battery technology with standard household charging supports overnight recharging via 110V or 220V outlets with no specialized equipment.

Design and Interior

Despite its compact footprint, Wink says the Mark3 accommodates four adults, including occupants up to approximately 6 feet 6 inches tall and 300 pounds. The vehicle comes standard with air conditioning and heat, power windows and locks, Bluetooth connectivity with hands-free calling, and a high-definition backup camera.

“Our goal was to create a true microcar designed specifically for American streets,” said Mark Dweck, President and Founder of Wink Motors. “Vehicles of this size have proven practical around the world for many years. We engineered the Wink to meet U.S. regulations while delivering the comfort, safety, and everyday usability American drivers expect.”

Safety and Build Quality

The Mark3 is built around a reinforced steel unibody structure that forms a protective passenger safety cell. Wink Motors says the vehicle incorporates more than 30 safety features that exceed federal low-speed vehicle requirements.

Standard equipment includes DOT-rated three-point inertia-reel shoulder harness seatbelts, a feature not required under federal LSV regulations. The braking system uses a dual-circuit configuration with front disc and rear drum brakes. Visibility features include a six-lamp hazard warning system, a high-mounted center brake light, and a triple-flash door alert that warns nearby drivers when passengers exit.

Production uses robotically controlled manufacturing processes, including robotic welding, automated structural assembly, and precision paint application.

Battery and Charging

The Mark3 uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry, a technology increasingly adopted across the EV industry for its durability, long cycle life, and thermal stability. Owners can recharge from a standard 110-volt household outlet or a 220-volt appliance outlet for faster charging, with most drivers able to recharge overnight without specialized equipment.

Sales and Service Model

Wink Motors offers live one-on-one vehicle demonstrations through video or FaceTime, allowing prospective buyers to explore the vehicle remotely. For service, the company works with a nationwide network of more than 10,000 independent mechanics. During the warranty period, Wink overnights replacement parts at no cost and pays the mechanic directly for warranty repairs.

The approach is designed to deliver factory-supported service without requiring owners to visit a dedicated dealership. The micro-EV segment in the U.S. is drawing increased attention as other manufacturers also target urban commuters seeking alternatives to full-size vehicles.
