Monta has expanded its EV charging roaming network to more than one million charge points across 26 European countries through a new partnership with Plugsurfing — an 80% increase in coverage. The deal gives Monta’s charge point operator (CPO) customers access to Plugsurfing’s roaming network, including more than 137,000 high-power charge points for ultra-fast charging on long-distance routes. Monta, the software infrastructure behind many of Europe’s EV charging networks, says the additional coverage takes effect with no action required from operators. Plugsurfing, part of payments company Corpay, is one of Europe’s largest eMobility service providers (eMSPs).
Highlights
- 80% coverage increase: Monta’s European roaming network grows from more than 600,000 to over one million active charge points.
- High-power access: the partnership adds more than 137,000 high-power charge points for ultra-fast charging.
- Pan-European reach: coverage now spans 26 European countries.
- No operator action: existing Monta CPO customers gain access immediately, with no new contracts or integrations.
What the Plugsurfing Partnership Adds
Plugsurfing brings Monta’s total roaming coverage to over one million active charge points in Europe, up from more than 600,000. The added 137,000-plus high-power points target ultra-fast charging on long-distance routes. Because Monta gains access to lower charge point operator rates, the company says roaming prices for drivers become more competitive automatically, with no action required from operators.
The commercial and technical relationship sits entirely between Monta and Plugsurfing. Monta’s CPO customers do not need to contract with, integrate with, or manage a relationship with Plugsurfing directly.
How Monta’s Managed Roaming Network Works
Monta built its Managed Roaming Network over the past five years, expanding it through partnerships with eMSP and CPO networks such as Plugsurfing, all managed centrally on behalf of its customers. The network functions as a central hub, removing the need for CPOs to negotiate individual contracts with multiple roaming networks.
The Plugsurfing addition follows the same managed roaming model: Monta handles the partnerships, integrations, and billing centrally, creating a single unified network for its customers. Drivers can charge across different providers without separate technical or payment hurdles.
Casper Rasmussen, CEO at Monta, said: “For EV driving to be truly simple, roaming needs to be seamless for drivers and invisible to operators. Our job is to make sure that when a driver plugs in, it simply works — regardless of which network they’re on. This partnership helps achieve that goal. Adding Plugsurfing to our Managed Roaming Network means our operators now reach even more of Europe’s charging infrastructure, without any additional work.”
What It Means for Operators
For existing Monta operators, the expanded coverage arrives without new contracts, integrations, or administrative work:
- Network expansion: 80% more coverage, growing the European roaming network from more than 600,000 to over one million charge points.
- Driver pricing: roaming prices become more competitive automatically while remaining transparent.
- Operator control: operators retain full control over their roaming tariffs and the end-customer experience.
- Seamless integration: existing Monta CPO customers benefit immediately, with no new contracts or integrations.
- Simplified administration: charge detail record (CDR) reconciliation, billing, and the Plugsurfing relationship are handled by Monta, with consolidated reporting through a single system.
Tom Rowlands, Managing Director, Global EV Solutions at Corpay, said: “Roaming connections like this are what make charging simpler at scale. By connecting Plugsurfing’s European network to Monta’s infrastructure, operators can extend their coverage and improve the driver experience without taking on the operational work behind it. Charging should just work for drivers, and stay simple for the businesses serving them.”
